Guide to Exporting and Delivering Files for Mixing and Mastering
To ensure the best possible result in the mixing and mastering of your track, follow these guidelines when exporting your files.
Format and Technical Specifications:
• Format: WAV
• Sample Rate: 48kHz is ideal, or use the same sample rate as in the recording/production phase (avoid sample rate conversions).
• Bit Depth: 32 or 24 bit (avoid 16 bit; if your recording was done at 16 bit, keep it).
• Export all files from the same starting point in the timeline (00:00) to ensure perfect alignment.
Guitars and Bass:
• Send only DI (Direct Input) tracks for bass and guitars.
• If the bass is MIDI, that’s fine.
• Do not export guitars and bass with effects, amp simulators, or processing—reamping will be handled during the mix.
Effects and Processing:
• Disable all mixing processes (compressors, limiters, corrective EQ on vocals and instruments, reverbs, and delays), as they will be managed during mixing.
• Keep production effects that are part of the arrangement or original sound design.
Levels and Balance:
• Maintain the original balance from the production.
• If exporting at 32-bit, don’t worry about peaks exceeding 0dB.
• If exporting at 24-bit, make sure no track exceeds 0dB.
Export Types:
If possible, send two versions of the multitrack files:
1. Version with production effects (to maintain the original intention).
2. Version without effects (dry) (useful for possible adjustments).
